What does it mean to live in faith?

I've been contemplating a lot with that statement. What does in mean to live in faith? I will not explain everything in this one blog. However, God is really testing my faith in Him. I want to live my life in faith in God. I know that He will take care of me and my future wife (and kids in the future). There are so many uncertainties with less than 2 weeks away from the wedding. But I know that God will provide all the necessary things for my family in His time. I believe God is making me trust only in Him. Please continue to pray that I will not lose faith in God.

Yesterday, it has been 3 years since I got ordained as Reverend through Evangelical Church Alliance. I am thankful for the many progresses I have made by God's grace since then. It is Thanksgiving Sunday. There are so many things I am thankful for this year. I had faith in God that He will provide His best for me this year. And He did. First, I thank God for God. He has been the source of strength in my life. He has given me hope to continue on. I thank God for my steady improvement with my health. Even though there are areas that needs improvement. I thank God that I am getting better. Second, I thank God for my family. I was reminded over and over again throughout this year of God's blessing upon me with great family members. I love you all. Third, I thank God for sending Elena into my life. She has been a great encouragement, blessing, and challenge to strive after God more and more in my life. I anticipate our lives together. 4 years

Today marks 4 years since I went into the emergency room. This day back in 2004 changed my life. I stayed in the hospital for 4 months. I was in coma for about 40 days. Many people had prayed for me and God spared my life. Although I am not completely healed. I am thankful for the blessings God has given me. I realize that in His time, everything works out. I am thankful to God for allowing me to meet Elena. I just praise God for all that He has blessed me. Thank you for all your faithful prayers.

I want to write to tell all of you that I am not lying like April Fool's Day. There is a real person whose name is Elena Kim who is in a relationship with me. She asked me not to put her personal information, so I am not. But, I am driving down to TJ tomorrow to see her. This is my 4th time driving down. I have no regrets going down. I have 2 important announcements. First is that I am finally courting someone. Her name is Elena Hyewon Kim. She is originally from Korea but lives in Tijuana Mexico. I went down to TJ few times already. I've met her parents and she came up yesterday to meet my parents. Both of our parents approve with this relationship. So if anyone has suggestions for me let me know. Second is I spoke at a church for a EM pastor position. The church is in Koreatown. I want God's guidance as I seek His guidance.

Yes, today is my 37th birthday. I am thankful for the life God has given me. There has been many things that happened in my life and I want to use each experiences to be used for God's glory. Last night during dinner my dad prayed for me. He usually prays that I would find a future wife. But instead he prayed for thanksgiving that I was still alive and that I will be faithful as a pastor. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I found out yesterday that I am suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Also the internet access at home is not working so I am at Biola library. When I first heard the news I was mad. But I choose to say blessed be your name. I know I have not gone through what Job went through. But if he could choose to say blessed be your name. I want to say the same thing. I know that God has the best interest in my life. He gives and take away but I choose to say blessed be your name.

Re-Connect

That was the theme for our church's youth group summer retreat. It was from 8/18-21. I went with them and came back down today. I had a good time resting and praying for what God wants me to do. Through out the retreat I was able to reconnect with God and with people from our church. I even had a brother come up to me apologizing for not supporting me much when I first came as the college pastor. He and I were able to reconcile our misunderstandings. Praise God for all that He is doing.

Korean-American

During the past few days, this topic of Korean-American has become very heart opening thought for me. I guess the group of people that fit into this category are those who are either 1.5 or 2nd generations. However, I have seen a new dimension with this category. There are many 1.5 and 2nd generations who are part of Korean speaking young adult congregations. And there are those who are 1.5 and 2nd generations who are part of all English speaking congregations. The thing that I see lacking within Korean churches is the lack of ministry to those who are Korean Americans. We don't particularly fit into Korean culture and at the same time do not fit into American culture. We fit into an Korean-American culture. This has been a challenge to me to pray during DTS. I want to be well equipped to serve in the Korean-American context. Keep me in your prayers.

I went bowling today

I met some old LACPC people for dinner. After dinner we had some dessert and decided to go bowling. I have not bowled since early 2004. I was hesitant at first because of my lack of balance. But I wanted to try. Surprisingly I did pretty well. Altogether we played 2 games. First game I scored 157 and the second game I got 130. I surprised people there with me of how well I was playing. So if anyone wants to go bowling against me, then let me know. I was little frustrated with my lack of coordination but God gave me enough balance for me to play and have fun. Thank you God.

Today I had a interview for a high school pastor position. After the interview, the pastor told me that he would not be able to recommend me to the search committee. One of the reason was that I would not be a suitable fit for the ministry needs. Few weeks ago I was turned down for a similar reason at a different church. I am praying for God's will to be done. My brother-in-law suggested me going to YWAM DTS in Seattle. Since, the leaders there focus on North Korea. I am praying for God's peace to be in my heart. But do pray for me that I would not be discouraged. Rather rejoice in the fact that I am in Christ.

Building a lasting relationship

Tonight, I had dinner with one of my former student from LACPC. I was his high school pastor. He is now 26 and teaching English at a high school in West Covina. I saw him last about a year ago. I thank God that I made some impact on his life that he would still see me. As I was meeting with him, I realized how important having a lasting relationship is. Yesterday, I got a call from a pastor whose church I applied for a position. He said that the elders were against hiring me because I was not married. I understood but I am sad. I was willing to move near the church and was looking forward to the new ministry opportunity. I am still looking for a new ministry position. So please keep your eyes open and let me know. Also, continue to pray for me that I will find a suitable mate. I am disappointed but I trust that the Lord will provide both place of ministry and mate.

28 years in the USA

Today marks our family's 28th year in the USA. There were many difficult times but God has been faithful in delivering us from them. Praise God. There were 5 when we came to US. However, we are now 13. And few more to go. I thank God for blessing our family in the past many years. And I thank God for continuing to bless our family in the many years to come.

Youth ministry pastor

On Wednesday I am meeting with a pastor for a possible youth ministry pastor position. I was very hesitant when someone told me about this position. I felt my age and health condition was not fair for the students. However, today I called the pastor to have a meeting on Wednesday. I want to do youth ministry again before I turn 40. Today I had lunch with someone who used to be at LACPC. We had lunch and afterwards sat at Coffee Beans on Wilshire and Western. That location brought lots of memory. I remember taking bus to school everyday on that corner. I graduated from Jr. High (John Burroughs) in 1987. Wow, that was many years ago. But that's when I realized what I wanted to be, a pastor. I wanted to be pastor to teach about Jesus and make a difference in young people's lives to be more like Jesus. There is a ministry in LA that does that. I want to go visit them this week on Thursday. Lord, help me to be faithful to your calling in my life.

Parents' Day

Today is Parents' Day in Korea. Although we celebrate this Sunday as Mother's Day and on June Father's Day. But, today is Parents' Day. I thank my parents for loving me so much. Thank you, Dr. Clyde Cook

Last Friday on 4/11, Dr. Clyde Cook, president emeritus of Biola passed away. I've had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Cook on a several occasion while a college student. He has been a great spiritual leader to me. I went into his office with several other Biola students to ask for prayer requests. We wanted to pray for Biola and what better way to know what to pray then to ask the president of school. He was more than happy to hear that from us and he instead prayed for us. Then on a regular basis, he sent a quarterly prayer requests. I remember receiving this letter even long after my graduation. There are other fond memories of him. I thank God that He has used Dr. Cook to make a difference for God's Kingdom through Biola. I know that God is pleased with him and he is enjoying God's presence for eternity. Thank you Dr. Cook for placing a heart for God in my life.

God is not done with me yet

Lately, I realize more and more that God is not done with me yet. This past week, I was asked to be a regular speaker at Watered Garden Ministry once a month. I told them starting from July I will come. I am simply thankful to God that He still wants to use me. Also, I am still praying for a new ministry. I know that in His time, He will send me. God has encouraged me so much yesterday

I went to Watered Garden to preach a message of encouragement. However, I was more blessed being there. Someone there encouraged me with such kind words. These days there are several things on my mind. First is what ministry God will call me into. Second is who will be my future wife. By the way, CMF has ended last Sunday. I am praying for God's leading. Third is something that I never thought about before. It is translating Korean Christian books into English. I just finished a book of a Korean martyr who died during the Japanese Conquest. After I finished I thought how this book could be so helpful for many English speakers only. God is faithful

This coming week, I will have an informal interview with one of the church. I will tell you the church once it is more final. Also, I am going to be on radio. Elder Kim from CMF has a radio program on Gospel Broadcasting Company. And he wants me to share my testimony and promote CMF. I don't know when it will air but when I find out I will let you all know. God is faithful in answering our prayers. I will continue to trust in Him because I know that He will not disappoint me. Pray for me that I will not be anxious during both interviews.

There were people there who recognized me

It has been over 3 years since leaving from Torrance Memorial Hospital. But when I went into the burn unit, and introduced myself. There were nurses who remembered me. I also met the nurse who took care of me. I wanted to see Dr. Murthy. But he was not there today. I will visit him later during the week when he is in office. My mom told few stories of while I was in the hospital. I have a very vague remembrance of everything there. I just want to say thank you to all for praying for me.

How much do I love Jesus

Tonight, I attended a Bible study for 20s - 40s. Since I am part of that age group I decided to attend. But everyone there was married with kids. I realized I am little bit late compared to them. Anyways, during the Bible study, we discussed about how much we love Jesus. The message was from Paul's confession of his love for Jesus in the book of Philippians. As I was thinking about this I was wondering to myself. Would I have gotten sick if I was not a Christian? More than that, would I have gotten sick if I did not move church from Global Mission Church to All Nations Church. Then, God comforted me with assurance that if I was not a Christian I would have died. Also, for me to be alive means that God has something special He wants me to do. In addition, moving churches would not have matter for God's will to be done. Where ever I would be I would have been sick and God would heal me. I say I love Jesus but it hard to be faithful everyday. Tomorrow, my mom and I are planning to visit the hospital in Torrance. I have not gone back since I came out from their 3 years ago. Although I am not completely healed I want to visit them and thank them for helping me. Thank you for your prayers. Let's not just say we love Jesus. But let our faithful life to Him show that we love Him.

Waiting for Lord's timing

It is hard waiting for the Lord's timing. There are couple of things I am waiting for. And the reason I am writing is for you to pray for me, that I will be patient. Being anxious does not help, but I am anxious. I most likely told others to be patient in the Lord. But it is hard. Please pray that I will trust in the Lord and be patient.

7 days have passed already in the new year. Tonight I had dinner with some people from LACPC. One of them was my former student. He is no longer in school, but working. We were talking how this is the year for me. I told him yes, this is the year for the Olympic in Beijing. I told him that I would not hang out with you once I get a girl. He was sad when I said that but he said he would be happy about a girl in my life. He just said to let him know when that happens. I do believe this is the year for me. Many things will happen this year and I am praying that God's will be done in my life.

My older brother's birthday

Today is Abraham Lee's birthday. He is getting older every year. It was good seeing him last week at Mexico. I thank God for giving me Abraham in my life. It's good to be home

Since 12/24, I've been traveling to Mexico and to San Jose, CA. I am finally home and I am ready begin the new year. I have lot of anticipation for this year. One thing God is placing in my heart is to be a better witness for Christ. I want to tell others of the Gospel of Jesus to those who have never heard. I want to challenge you the same. Thanks to all your prayers, my parents and I are safely back home. This year began at the airport. Maybe this is God's way of saying that I will travel a lot. Once we get some rest, three of us will drive to San Jose to visit Sandy's family. I just want to wish everyone happy new year.

It's been already one week since coming to Mexico. I am leaving here tomorrow. I had a wonderful time here. I think I ate tacos every night since I got here. Oh yes! I had lot of fun with my niece and nephews as well. They have grown so much. They have been taking turns sleeping in the same room with me. I thank God that I was able to spend one week with them. Even though I don't get to see them all the time. I always see them through prayers. And now I know their home, so I have a better picture in my mind when I pray. Also for the past several days, I took them to the local park where they can ride their bikes. I will post some picture later. Happy New Year everyone. I had a blessed time at the Bridge Church. I have to give respect to many pastors who has to give 2 different messages on the same day. I had to do that yesterday. I preached at LA Hanmi Youth Service in the morning and at the Bridge Church in the afternoon. I am thankful for the opportunity God has given me to share what He has done. It's already the last month of December. Let's finish this year well in the Lord. Thank you for all your prayers.

God answered our prayers

For the past several weeks, we've been praying for something. And God answered our prayers today. Few weeks ago my mom lost her wallet and inside was her Resident Card. All we had to do was to get a replacement. But she was planning to go to Mexico on 12/24. The INS said it usually takes about 6 months. We did not have that kind of time. The Mexico trip was planned few months back with both parents and me. She was really bummed out thinking she might not go. So we decided to pray for God to do a miracle. Well, today in mail we received her wallet along with her Card. I praised God for answering our prayers. Also, tomorrow marks 2 years since I got ordained as a Reverend. Although I still have many flaws. I thank God that He is using me. In addition, I will be speaking at The Bridge Church EM service this coming Sunday. I am excited to see all that God will do.

Hello everyone, I just want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving. There are so many things I am thankful for. I thank God for allowing me to be alive. It has been over 3 years since being in the hospital. I thank God for giving 2 eyes. He knew in advance that if one had a problem. The other one could still see. I thank God for the strength He has given me to do many things now. Although there are still many things I cannot do. I thank God for the things I am able to do. Yesterday, when I met my friend for accountability. There were 2 other brothers who joined us. I was able to share my testimony of what God has done in my life to them. They were both blessed and encouraged through what God is doing in my life. I was reminded of God's goodness and His faithfulness in my life. Enjoy all that God has given to us.

Thanks to all your prayers I made it safely to San Jose. It is great seeing both of my sisters and Rachel for the first time. I am meeting one of my friend for accountability time tomorrow. We started meeting on Weds. morning in LA. But since both of us are up in San Jose, we will meet up here. Please keep us in your prayers. I am excited to see all that God will do. I could not notice the fact that Sandy saw how my mom raised us and I have no doubt that Sandy will do a good job and maybe even better. The 4th niece

This morning my younger sister, Sandy, gave birth to Rachel Kang. Both mom and baby are doing well. They will be going home tomorrow. I am thankful to God for allowing Rachel to come into this world. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness

Yesterday, was the last college service. I preached from Matthew 6:19-34. I used these passages when we first started the college service. The message I wanted to give to the students were the same. I wanted them to know that as long as we seek God's Kingdom first. Then God will take care of everything else. I do believe that God will take care of everything in my life, in His time. Today is the 3rd anniversary of going into the hospital for the 1st time back in 2004. As I see my life, I see that God has taken care of me. Although, I am not physically able like before. I do believe that God will able me even better than before. Thank you again for all your prayers.

Tonight I went to a special concert with my mom. It was Lena Maria. She has no arms and one of her leg is short. Yet, she is able to do so much with what she has. She has a beautiful voice and she sings to praise God. She uses her foot like we use our hands. Her toes are like our fingers. She cooks and even drives with them. There was a clip of her swimming. Remember, she has no hands. I thought about myself. I have more than she does. Although I have limitations. God does not and all things are possible with God. Tomorrow will be the last college service. I praise God for the opportunity He has given me to serve. I will not lose heart for God and in His time everything will be great. Life-Changing Prayer

For 2 weeks our church is having special early morning prayer. God has really blessed me through various speakers. The theme is "Life-Changing Prayer". There are still unanswered prayer requests. But that does not mean God will not answer them. It just means it is not His time yet. I will continue to be faithful to Him because He has been faithful to me. Also, I had lunch with one of my old college friend. We used to keep each other accountable and we will do that again. We decided to meet once a week to pray and read the Bible. I am excited to see what God will do. Let's not lose heart for God.

God has blessed me with 2 great sisters. And it is my older sister Elaine's birthday today. She has been a big encouragement and a blessing to me through out the years. I am very proud of her in that she is serving God at Mexico. Although I do not see her regularly with my eyes. She is always in my prayer which means I do see her spiritually. Tonight, I had dinner with some people whom I have seen for several weeks at CMF. CMF stands for Christian Marriage and Family. My mom signed me to go to find a girl. At first I was very reluctant to attend. But I learned so much about being a husband God wants me to be. Also, I was able to meet wonderful people. I don't know what the next step will be but God knows my heart. And He will take care of everything. I patiently wait for God's guidance. I thank God for CMF ministry. And I highly recommend this ministry to anyone who is single and is planning to get married. Have a great week in the Lord.

I've been to 3 funerals this month. The ages ranging from less than one to over 80. I thought about how I will end my life. I hope not to die soon. I want to live my life for God's glory. But I want to end my life well. There are still many things I want to do for the Lord. I want to be faithful to Him. I have made few more decisions. But continually pray for me that I will be obedient to Him.

These days I am in a dilemma to choose I what I need to do or want to do. Although I cannot specifically tell you in details, please keep me in your prayers. There are many things I want to do but I am not sure if that is what I need to do. There were many times when I did things because I needed to do rather than wanting to do them. Now I am in a reverse situation. I want to do something but I am not sure if that is what I need to do. To make matters more difficult, the need to do is something I need. Lot to think about

Today I went to a funeral of my friend's daughter. She was less than one. There were some complications with her blood. She was one of triplet girls. The other two are doing well but Elyse did not make it. I had mixed emotions being there. This morning my mom woke me up at 5:20AM for me to go to Early Morning Prayer. She came into my room to let me know that she loves me and wants to discipline me. I gave her a hug and she prayed for me. Last night, I could not sleep right away thinking about when I am going to get married. I really want my mom to see her daughter in law. I realized once again how much my mom loves me. I made up a phrase. Kwonsanims would not talk harsh things to pastors. But mom can and will.

Lobsterfest

Today I went to go eat Lobster at a Lobsterfest near Redondo Beach. Even though it was little over 1 lb., it was good. I went with another pastor from church. We both agreed to go next year with our families. He has a wife and three kids. And I need to bring my wife. A lot can happen in a year. Today I went to 2 weddings. One was at LA Hanmi and the other one at Anaheim. I realized that I should get married soon. Well, I realized this many years ago.

36 years

It is hard to believe but I am 36 years old. But what is more amazing is that I am not married with kids. When I was younger, I told my parents that I would get married when I was 25. God has a different plan. I received several calls from people to congratulate my birthday. I told them, I don't have a girlfriend, YET. Yes, in God's perfect time, I will meet a special person for my life. I want to continue live my life for HIS glory. Thank you for your prayers.

Yesterday, while getting a haircut

Yesterday, while I was getting a haircut. The person giving me the haircut asked me few things. I talked to her before but nothing like what we talked about yesterday. One thing I said that keeps lingering in my heart is don't give up. Satan wants Christians to give up. But we must not give up no matter the situation. Another power we have is prayer. By simply praying, I believe we have won the battle already. Praying to God is believing that He will take care of everything. Few years ago I read a slogan. It said, when we work, we work. But when we pray, God works. I want to encourage all of you to pray so that God will work in each of our lives.

God answers prayer

The Korean hostages in Afghanistan are finally released. There are many talks regarding their release. I praise God for answering our prayers. I am sure many churches around the world prayed for their release. In our college ministry. We prayed for them as well. We are small in numbers but when the family of God around the world came together, we became strong. Praise God for their release. Let's continue to pray for their healthy spiritual recovery. May the name of God be mightily proclaimed through this.

Summer Retreat
